Dear Readers,
Welcome to the newest edition of CROSSBRONX, the literary magazine of the Bronx council of the Arts; I am pleased and honored to be the guest editor. The theme of this issue is “An End to All that,” and was chosen for a number of reasons. For one, it evokes endings as well as beginnings, which I personally feel is reflective of our time. We are in an economic downturn, no jobs, no food, no homes for many. Struggle is a reality for almost all of us; gone are the things we thought we couldn’t live without once upon a time. But as we know, in times like these creativity tends to flourish—whether it is in the form of a piece of art, or a creatively procured home or meal, or whether one makes a decision to begin again, from scratch. The authors I have chosen here have contributed works that fit this large theme; whether it is about reinventing oneself or reimagining one’s setting or even reimagining one’s purpose, the end often signifies the beginning. I wish to thank the authors who have given of their time and material, and I ask the audience to enjoy these evocative works of literature.
